Place the bottom shelf the one with all four corners notched into the bench. If you follow the procedure carefully you get a massive top that s flat square and needs hardly any. Align the edges of the 1 2 inch plywood top flush with the edges of the bench.
If the plywood top is damaged later it s a simple task to remove and replace it. Lay out the outside edge lines of the bench top on the mdf or plywood. If you have an end that isn t quite stable use it as a foot where the leveler will make it s flaws unimportant. Flip over the workshop bench and attach the lower shelf frame.
The bench will be heavy so have someone help you. The top is supported by the top ends of the legs and the top sides of the top stretchers. Build your outside box frame use the 1x2 lumber pre drill holes or use a brad nailer and glue. The bench is not difficult to build but it requires a methodical construction process.
The best workbenches are built from solid wood but building a workbench top through lamination takes a lot of skill and money. Stand your legs on end on a flat surface like my door and see if they wobble.
